Softball Today Magazine has created this series to recognize various players who stand out among the games best players at the highest level; a forum to put you in touch with some of the games recognizable talents and their careers.
Brett Helmer is first and foremost a family man and he stands 6’0” and weighs a sturdy 260 lbs. When he is not launching softballs out of stadiums at Major League Ballpark exhibitions as part of the Bombers series, or representing Easton Sports as their National Softball Promotions Manager, he is terrorizing pitchers and playing defense in the highest level of softball. He is a fierce competitor with all the hustle you could ever want but has all the key attributes associated with being a quality and reliable person. He is committed to personal achievement and the success of his team and teammates.
A friend to many and relentless in life. All his previous teammates/sponsors and current teammates/sponsors to the man, only have words of respect and praise for his contributions on and off the field. He is a man of his word.
Brett’s hometown is Syracuse, New York. He was born in 1971 and earned a B.S. in Education from Eastern Connecticut State University in 1994. Brett was a competitive Power lifter at the state and national level. He has won titles at the state level and won multiple National Championship titles in Power lifting as well.
Brett began his A-AA-Major softball career by playing with Sojern /Specialty Tank/TPS in 1997. In 1998 he joined the very successful Hague/ Wessel/TPS and in 1999 he was with Team Easton and that team in 2000 became BellCorp Easton. He was a very consistent player that was very effective offensively but like all great players he could really go get it in the field. His size was no hindrance and the results began to show.
In 2001 he started a four year run with Dan Smith/Backman/Menosse/Easton. The 2005 season brought change once again as he joined forces with Woody Bell and his syndicate again. The team was called BellCorp/Backman/Taylor/Easton and only the sponsors names would change behind the BellCorp name in 2006 as BellCorp/Taylor Brothers/Belcher/Easton and today in 2007 you can find Brett Helmer as a key member of BellCorp/Belcher/TAI/Backman/Easton. In 2006 he was a member of the KME/Chaney’s/Body Glove/Easton team that captured the ASA “A” National Championship.
His acknowledgements and awards garnered read like a Hall of Fame resume that anyone would be proud to have associated with their name. He is a four time National Batting Champion in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2005. In 2004 he was the Easton Bomb Squad Home Run Champion. He owns 13 World or National Championships in a variety of Associations. Brett Helmer has been an All World team member 26 times in his career. In the time period from 2000 – to current, Brett is the USSSA World Series Leader in Hits, Homeruns, Average, and RBI’s. He assists and counsels the various Softball Associations with input on policy, changes to the game, and maintaining ethical standards.
We were able to identify some of his more charitable qualities that he is very reluctant and to humble to disclose. His work with Easton Sports and Softball allow him some opportunities to support a variety of good causes. Brett has been instrumental in providing contributions to others to support needy children within the Children’s Miracle Network and the Toys-For-Tots charities for the past six years.
He in combination with other softball sponsor’s has aided Military organizations through the generous donation of equipment, time, and fundraising. He donates his time to clinics, exhibitions, and the promotion of the game of softball on all levels. He is an active member in various community service organizations as well. If you have never had the pleasure to meet him please take the time to do so, you will not regret it.
